Meeting/24 July

From Shift Linux

<barney> I am not going to be here long today, as my family has to go out... can you pick up the slack?

<barney> ^yup

<simon360> hmm

<barney> I really want to go over a couple of items that we need to think about

<simon360> if anyone comes

<barney> well.. we'll post the log if we need to

<barney> we are a core group and we'll need to keep our chins up! :)

<simon360> I can't believe how well this is coming

<barney> yes it is......

<simon360> no offense, but when I saw the original idea, I never thought it'd get this far

<simon360> but it's gotten to a point now when it's too late to turn back

<barney> me either, but with good people, things have a way of working themselves out

<barney> yes... our dignity is on the line!

<barney> anyways, I'm going to start

<barney> pretend that you are 50 people... :)

<barney> like you said, Shift 0.2 will be out in a day or so

<barney> our sites look fine, you have the Blog and the Wiki, and Sam has the official site

<simon360> the official site, I think, should go up for the 0.2 release

<barney> we need to concentrate on making sure that these are up to date

<barney> yes

<barney> however, the official site still has the old graphics

<barney> and is stillbeing constructed.

<simon360> true

<barney> no problem... but we'll need to step this up, since folks are going to go there to see what this is all about <simon360> for 0.3

<barney> and the official site is our "presentation" piece

<barney> ok

<simon360> I'll get the current theme finalised, then give the code over to sam

<barney> plus we need to add documentation, FAQs, links, etc

<barney> great

<barney> there is just a lot of work that needs to be done to get it up to our high standards

<simon360> definitely

<barney> I mean there will be some stuff on Distrowatch soon and we need to be ready

<barney> some other stuff to parcel out........

<barney> we need to work on themes for our next release

<barney> you know, like when you go to Gnome-Art?

<simon360> yup

<barney> and download a new theme?

<barney> icons, wallpaper, etc

<simon360> yes

<barney> we have some other great graphics folks that can do some of this... Max, others

<barney> that would be a good task for them

<barney> what do you thinks about that?

<simon360> the issue is how window borders are made

[INFO] Font size is 14pt

<barney> hmmmmmmm

[INFO] Font size is 16pt

<barney> do we have anyone that can help there?

<simon360> mark, possibly

<barney> ok..... yes he agreed today to help us with Flux

<barney> and soon, we'll be using Gnome too

<simon360> how different are flux and hgnome themes? I know that gnome ones are fancier

<barney> Flux is pretty sparse

<simon360> flux being a lightweight WM

<barney> it is for machines with lower level resources

<barney> very low-end

<simon360> very powerful, but not focusing on looks

<barney> I am thinking that we should try to create a theme for Gnomew, when we use that

<simon360> we could just modify Clearlooks

<barney> then, when we are up with Gnome, we can just use what we have

<simon360> that seems to be the "in thing"

<barney> yeah!

<barney> great idea

<simon360> but we should do something like Ubuntu did

<simon360> with custom controls, etc

<barney> anyways... you do not have to burden yourself with this alone.... get our able assistats

<barney> ^yes

<barney> that is exactly what I mean

<barney> if possible

<simon360> I don't have access to Linux right now anyway, so I can't test it out

<simon360> my laptop is close to getting fixed

<barney> I suggest that you out-source this to our other guys

<barney> then you can approve the results

<barney> how is that?

<simon360> perfect

<simon360> so, with regards to the logo

<barney> then the others will not get bored

<barney> yes?

<simon360> Max made a modified, glossier version

<barney> k

<simon360> do we want that, or the current one

<barney> what do you think looks better?

<simon360> I think glossay is a bit overused, but that logo he made (glossier) is a hit more exciting

<barney> I like glossy myself, but that is my own individual opinion

<barney> agreed

<simon360> I say we go with glossy

<barney> see, that was easy.. :)

<simon360> who made that new bootscreen?

<barney> and we have to add the new slogon to our sites, too

<barney> Max

<simon360> I'll get working on that

<simon360> ok

<barney> and you

<simon360> Bulio decided to go with the other one

<simon360> which is fine

<simon360> I put about 5 minutes of work into mine

<barney> I think that we'll use different boot screens with each release to see what you guys like

<simon360> ok

<barney> we are not really committed to only one

<barney> we also want a whole host of wallpapers so that we can pick and choose

<barney> uh oh........ have to go.

<simon360> ok

<barney> thanks, Simon!
