Development/Current Events
We need help in these areas (1 July 2006)
Neowin Shift 0.1 is out ans will be uploaded soon for your viewing pleasure. It is a concept attempt and not designed as a full fledged working distro. We need help getting this version shaped. Here is what we need:
Neowin Wallpaper Status: Urgent
We need a Neowin wallpaper done, that comes in a preferrable size of 1024 * 768. Do your best and add it to the Art Center.
Fluxbox Neowin Theme Status: Urgent
We need someone to make a nice XFCE and Fluxbox theme that incorporates the Neowin/Shift look and feel. Be creative, but be sure that it reflects the look of Neowin.
Widgets Status: Pending
We need someone with experience with Apple Dock or Gdesklets to create some useful Neowin widgets. What kind of widget is up to you, just make it do something useful for Neowin members and the forums.
Graphics Designers:
As soon as we get the SVN up, I will be creating an image directory where I will upload images that need to be changed into Neowin/Shift logos.
Meetings
We will try to schedule meetings biweekly, at a time where most people can be online. Meetings will have pre-set topics that we will discuss each week, and logs will be posted both on the forums, wiki, and in the SVN repostiory. Users will also be able to have meetings with the team.
Package Management
To reduce load on our servers, we will be using the Ubuntu repositories for users to download applications such as Firefox. We will have either a custom package management for users to download properitary drivers and our custom code (widgets, themes, tools) such as for ATI graphics cards. Alternatively, we may setup a Neowin Ubuntu repository for all of our custom code. (Themes, programs, widgets etc.)
Release System
I think the best way to work releases, is have the dedicated group of mirrors advised of a download time for official releases. At that time, I will seed a .torrent file which ONLY mirror hosts will be allowed to download. They will then upload the file to the mirrors, and then it will be downloadable to the community.
Roadmap
0.1 - 0.5 - Working on Morphix base - COMPLETE 0.6 - Move to Ubuntu as a base - COMPLETE 0.7 - 0.9 (internal, due July 2008) - Branding, new applications 1.0 - "Late Summer" - Our 1.0
Bugs
1) We are interested in detection of your computer hardware.
2) We are interested in any graphics bugs.
3) We want to make sure that you get the right resolution ( especially on wide screens).
Thanks to everyone who made this possible.
This is only a concept of what will be happening, but I wish to get some ideas that I've had out. If we can all work together like we have been, Shift Linux can really become a reality! Feel free to suggest changes and such.
