GDebi

Description: GDebi is a GUI tool for installing Debian/Ubuntu packages that are on your machine (local).

Website: GDebi on Launchpad

Installation: Gdebi can be installed by selecting XFCE Menu-->System-->Synaptic Package Manager. Then you can do a search for 'gdebi' and, when it comes up, select it for installation and then click apply. (Note: It will also show a KDE version, do not install it as it will require some KDE libs).

Post Installation Notes: After it has been installed, you have to manually add it to the XFCE Menu. To do this, select XFCE Menu-->Settings-->Menu Editor. When the menu editor opens, click the button that looks like a (+)cross/plus sign (not the X). When the box comes up, leave the Type set to Launcher. Enter the name GDebi in the name box. In the command box, put /usr/bin/gdebi-gtk. Choose an icon if you want, then click ok. Press the button thats a box with an arrow on it to save your changes. Then GDebi should be in your menu.

Parcellite

Description: Parcellite is a clipboard manager made with GTK+. Unlike Glipper and Klipper, it doesn't require the respective desktop libraries to run.

Website: Parcellite homepage

Installation: As of right now, Parcellite can not be found in our repositories. However, the folks over and GetDeb.net have created a Debian package making installation easy for new users. I recommend first installing GDebi (instructions above) to simplify this more. So to install, you will have to go over to their [www.getdeb.net site] and use their search feature to find Parcellite. From there, download the version for your computer (32/64 bit depending on your CPU). Save the file to a directory and then open GDebi. From the GDebi interface, choose File-->Open and then find the file you downloaded of Parcellite. Enter your password and GDebi will do the rest for you. Alternatively you can open Thunar, go to the folder you saved the file into, right click it and click Open with GDebi Package Installer.

Post Installation Notes: After it has installed, you can find Parcellite in the XFCE Menu under Accessories-->Parcellite.

Bleeding Edge: Not applicable.
