libdvdcss2
Description: libdvdcss2 allows you to play encrypted DVDs regardless of region or encoding. [Note: In some countries there are legal issues with using these files. Please determine what your country's rules are before using them.]
Website: www.medibuntu.org
Installation: The quickest way to install libdvdcss2 is via the terminal. Before installing, you'll want to enable the Medibuntu repository--if you've already done this, skip this step.
1. Enabling the Medibuntu repository: open a terminal (Applications-->Accessories-->Terminal) and type the following (you can copy the text here and paste it, using Ctl-Shift-V for paste into terminal):
sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/gutsy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list
When you hit Enter, you will then be asked for your password. Enter it. Then copy and paste the following line into the terminal:
wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update
And hit Enter, of course.
What you have just done is to enable access to the Medibuntu repository, a place where various other proprietary software (Google Earth, Picasa, Acrobat Reader, Skype, etc.) can also be accessed. [Note: You only need to enable the Medibuntu repository ONCE. Once you've got it enabled, you can skip straight to the next step for your other downloads from that site.]
2. Now, since you are in the terminal, try typing:
sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2
And hit Enter. libdvdcss2 should then begin downloading and installing. Leave the terminal window open until it is finished.
Now you are ready to enjoy region-free DVDs designed for either NTSC or PAL.
